Congratulations to our scholarship recipients Brooklyn Laker and Cierra Copeland!

Every year, the Doris A. Brelage Nursing Scholarship is awarded to someone who represents the work ethic and character of Doris Brelage by the Ripley County Community Foundation. Doris was the perfect example of the best Ripley County has to offer: kind, generous, and dedicated to the community. The scholarship was founded by Brelage’s family after her death as a way to honor Doris. She was a registered nurse and EMS member, she spent thirty-seven years at Margaret Mary Community Hospital as Director of Nursing, Head of Surgical Nursing, and Director of Infection Control. Ripley County Community Foundation is proud to present this scholarship to a Galen College of Nursing Student, Brooklyn Laker.

Lisa Banks, RN, states, “Dorris was a dedicated nurse, great friend, and mentor. I think she would be very happy to support Brooke’s nursing education. Brooke’s attention to customer service and promoting the ‘Margaret Mary Way’ were very much a part of Doris’ daily routine.”

This scholarship receipt must be a graduate of Batesville High School or be nominated by a practicing nurse at Margaret Mary Community Hospital, be accepted into nursing school, and demonstrate dedication to both academics and community service.

Congratulations again to Brooklynn Laker!

The Corinne’s Believers Scholarship was established in 2012 to honor the short, yet vibrant, life of Corinne Lamping. Corinne was trained at Aveda Fredrie’s Institute of Indianapolis in 2010 and expressed her love and talent for cosmetology by satisfying every one of her customers. Corinne’s mother, Janice Lamping expressed how they established this scholarship “in honor of Corrine in an effort to help some young lady or gentleman achieve their lifetime dream of becoming a hair stylist.” The Ripley County Community Foundation is proud to award this scholarship to South Ripley High School graduating senior, Cierra Copeland.

Cierra is scheduled to start school at Aveda Fredrie’s Institute in Indianapolis in the fall, and is excited to expand her knowledge in the field of cosmetology. Upon receiving the $2,000.00 scholarship, Cierra stated “I love making people feel pretty in their own skin. Even though they probably don’t need makeup or to have their hair done, I love doing it for them and I want people to feel like they have always wanted to feel.”

Congratulation again to Cierra Coplenad!
