Joe Lake Memorial Scholarship

The Joe Lake Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of Joe, who as a devoted scholar and athlete who passed away on June 23, 2021.  Joe gave 100% to everything he attempted whether that was academics, athletics, his job or his family.  Joe’s greatest passion was running, followed by basketball.  He attended Centerville High School and still holds the school records for cross country in 1981 with a time of 15:50 and in track with the 3200 record of 9:33.  He held the cross country record at Hanover College for 35 years (5K in 15:09).  He qualified for the State meet in cross country and track in 1981 and 1982.  He also qualified for Nationals for Hanover and later the University of Southern Indiana.  He was also chosen All-Conference and MVP for basketball in 1982 and was chosen as one of the top 10 athletes of the 20th century by the Palladium Item newspaper.  

In addition to sports, Joe excelled in the classroom and received numerous awards for scholastics and service to others.  He carried this dedication and achievement on to the workplace where he finished his career as the Chief Global Human Resource manager for Valvoline.

Applications will be accepted starting in January 2022. Applicant must:

  • Be a graduating senior from Batesville High School; AND
  • Have been a member of a high school athletic team which was sanctioned by the Batesville Community School Corporation and that represented the school name and mascot; AND
  • Submit an essay of no more than 500 words describing the impact sports has had on the applicant’s life; AND
  • Submit RCCF Scholarship Application and all attachments through the online scholarship portal at www.rccfonline.org by March 1st.
