GENESIS: PATHWAYS TO SUCCESS ANNOUNCES OCTOBER STEMSTAR

Ripley County, Indiana – Genesis: Pathways to Success (GPS) is proud to present its October STEMstar, Jenny Bornemann, a fifth-grade math teacher from Batesville Intermediate School!

“Ms. Bornemann is a very focused teacher,” said Devon Phillips, Batesville Intermediate School principal, who nominated her for the STEMstar award. “She has integrated STEM into her daily lessons. She has taken it upon herself to learn all she can about coding and STEM.”

During the 2017 spring intersession code camp, Bornemann’s fifth graders enjoyed participating in the Hour of Code event involving 159 students at Batesville Intermediate School. Her leadership in this experience provided students with an in-depth view not only of coding, but also an opportunity to speak with industry experts and to learn more about digital citizenship, internet safety and cybersecurity.

According to Phillips, “She is continuously focused on improving her knowledge in STEM, having attended seven STEM conferences in the past five years. She truly has a growth mindset.”

Bornemann has been a teacher at Batesville Intermediate School since 2001. She holds a Master’s in Education from Miami University (Ohio) and has completed more than 30 hours of postgraduate work in addition to her master’s degree.

In her “free” time, Bornemann enjoys traveling, volunteering with her church, and assisting with programs for girls at the Cincinnati Museum Center’s STEM Girls University.

GPS began the STEMstar program in January 2017 to recognize students and educators who are making strides in STEM. To nominate a STEMstar, please fill out the STEMstar form at http://bit.ly/STEMstar.
